Lettering requirements

1. Have NO NDHSAA Infractions during the entire school year.

i.e. ALCOHOL - DRUGS - SMOKING

Section XII of the North Dakota High School Activities Association Constitution and By-Laws read as follows:

"The use or possession of tobacco, alcohol or any controlled substances as defined by North Dakota law is prohibited. Any extra-curricular participant who is in violation of the foregoing shall be suspended from participation in interscholastic contests or activities for a minimum period of six consecutive school weeks for the first offense and a period of eighteen consecutive weeks for any subsequent offense."

2. There are three categories which a skater must fulfill to qualify for a letter in Figure Skating within the Bismarck Figure Skating Club and the Bismarck Public School system. To qualify for a letter, the skater must show his/her rate of progression through dedication and participation rather than the level of accomplishments. Skating achievements will become automatic through 100% dedication, whereas each skater advances at their own rate or progress. The categories are:

A. COMPETITIONS: The skater must participate in at least one discipline, of the following Free -Skate, Compulsory or Dance as an individual competitor in at least two competitions during the winter season.

B. USFSA TESTING: The skater must be a USFSA National Tester.

C. SKATING SESSIONS: Each skater shall skate a minimum of 80 sessions from the available 147 sessions throughout the entire winter season. A session will include Free-Skate, Moves in the Field and Dance. Skaters must skate 2 morning sessions Per week.

Synchronized Skating shall be counted as only one ( 1 ) session.

100% Practice attendance required, with the following exceptions:

a. The skater's coach shall be notified of an illness prior to or during the skating season.

b. The skater's coach shall give approval prior to a skater's absence. ego family vacations, unavoidable conflicts, etc.

C. The skater's coach shall be responsible to report a skater's absenteeism or disciplinary actions required, to the Board of Directors for lettering.

3.   Skaters must be receiving passing grades in four of their classes to letter. Skaters eligible for letters shall be those completing grades nine ( 9 ) through twelve ( 12 ). Seventh ( 7 ) and Eighth ( 8 ) grade skaters will be eligible for special certificates recognizing their skating accomplishments.

OTHER CONSIDERATIONS WILL BE WEIGHED THROUGHOUT THE SKATING SEASON BY THE SKATING DIRECTOR, HEAD COACH AND THE BISMARCK FIGURE SKATING CLUB BOARD OF DIRECTORS
